Who is Mehmet Efendi? Born in 1857 in Istanbul's Fatih district, Mehmet Efendi inherited his father's spice shop. In 1871, he began roasting and grinding coffee beans there, pioneering the practice of packaging freshly ground coffee for customers. Becoming A Brand After Mehmet Efendi's passing in 1931, his sons inherited the business. Hasan Selahattin expanded internationally, while Hulusi modernized production and commissioned an Art Deco headquarters. İhap Hulusi designed the enduring company logo in 1932.
