Guava jelly, known as "bocadillo de guayaba" in Spanish, is a traditional Colombian sweet made from guava pulp and panela. Widely consumed across Colombia, one of the world's top guava producers, this treat has deep cultural significance. The town of Vélez in the Santander Department is famous for its production of bocadillo, often called "bocadillo Veleño." In Venezuela, a similar product called "conserva" is enjoyed, which can be made from guava, coconut, banana, and more. Bocadillo is typically paired with cheese, spread on bread, or eaten by itself, and is often found in small rectangular blocks with a firm texture and deep red color, resembling the Spanish dessert dulce de membrillo. Another closely related dessert is the Brazilian goiabada, also made from guava. Notably, in 2006, bocadillo veleño was nominated as a cultural symbol of Colombia in a contest by Semana magazine.
