Product description About our Imperial Marzipan Rooibos What does a tisane of South African Rooibos, Moroccan almonds, and marzipan have to do with an 18th-century Russian palace? It connects to St. Petersburg's Winter Palace, commissioned by Catherine the Great and designed by architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli from 1754 to 1762. Rastrelli, seeking comforts from home, brought marzipan made from Moroccan almonds. Unbeknownst to him, Catherine also loved marzipan, particularly the German version. Their romance sparked over a piece of marzipan, leading to a delay in the palace's completion but a smile on Rastrelli’s face.
