She has taken free adult literacy classes and English language classes, both funded by Divine Chocolate sales, and became fluent only after a few years. Mercy also learned how to screen print fabrics, another program funded by Divine Chocolate sales, which helps her generate income in the cocoa harvesting off season to support her five children. Mercy’s commitment to Kuapa Kokoo over the years has resulted in her colleagues electing her as the Treasurer of Adiyaa society and as the President of the Women’s Society. Mercy was also the vice-president of the Dadieso district and was chosen to do a tour throughout the United Kingdom and the United States, lecturing about the importance of Fairtrade.
